Stitt Energy Systems
Rogers, AR
This house was designed specifically for lot on which it stands. It was oriented for maximum solar gain and daylighting in the main living areas. It’s primarily slab-on-grade sited on an undisturbed flat area. Stitt Energy Systems designed the house, including its lower level shop and garage, specifically with the site topography in mind. They used the highest quality, lowest maintenance materials throughout.
As few trees as possible were removed from the building site. Trees that were cut down were chipped on site or cut for firewood.

This affordable housing project in Seattle is providing 1,600 new homes constructed to the local home building association's Built Green specifications. All are built to the local home building association’s Built Green specifications, exceeding energy code requirements by 30 to 50 percent. The home designs incorporate daylighting strategies, hardwood flooring, enhanced ventilation systems, weatherization and insulation, and 90 percent of the old-growth cedar and fir from the original development – which was recovered for reuse.More than 100 large trees were preserved, and another 2,500 trees and drought-resistant native species plants were added. |

Techniques incorporated include passive solar design, higher levels of insulation, solar water heating panels, and convective air slab. Further, the home takes full advantage of natural lighting and passive solar heating by putting 50% of its windows on the southern side. |
